Are Foxes Omnivores?

Throwing out some papers this afternoon I came across this writing exercise completed during one of Rick Taylor’s workshops several years ago. The funny thing is that I lived on a street called Foxview at the time:
Are they Omnivores?
I woke up this morning and looked out the window. In the garden below this creature was frantically digging a hole in front of a cluster of hostas, just for fun. I’m certain. You can’t be that frisky and free, and serious, all at the same time. He wore black stockings and mascara. Looked like a soft fluffy beanie baby, only cuter. He was a real, freshly popped shiny Spring shoot, light and life-filled. A startlingly charismatic little beast, bristling with vigor and joy. Freshly bathed, and toweled.
After digging dog-like for a few moments, he loped over to a small lilac bush, bit into a mouthful of leaves and branches, and tugged them wildly. Are foxes omnivores?
Rounding the bush, head flitting all over with curiosity, he returned to his dig, scratched another spoonful of soil, snooted the terrain, and bee-lined off along the top of the neighbour’s fence. A captivating gift.
